Event-in-a-Box
Event-in-a-Box is a tool assembled by the Department of Communications and Agricultural Education to help increase customer awareness. Faculty from campus, county and district offices, and research centers have shared successes and experiences from their events to create this kit.
Event-in-a-Box has various materials to facilitate successful event management listed below.
What Makes a Successful Event?
Need some ideas for events? This section offers tips from your colleagues on planning and promoting successful events. It also includes an event organizer and program evaluation forms and a checklist on how to create successful handouts.
Want to get the word out to your community? Use this section of Event-in-a-Box to learn the ABC's of news. This section has tip sheets on writing a letter to the editor, choosing a spokesperson, communicating with a reporter, and making the most of radio and television. It also has a helpful time line for writing a commemorative book for a major event, such as a centennial.
Signs are a sure way to attract attention. This section can help you create useful signs. The Event-in-a-Box CD has templates for a basic event flyer and directional arrows to guide attendees to events.
Keep a record of who attended your event by using this Guest Book template. It can be used to create a mailing list and reach new clients.
In the event of a crisis, the Crisis Management Planning form has emergency contact numbers and what to do in case of an emergency. Take a copy of this sheet when you attend any K-State Research and Extension activity and leave a second with your office staff and/or board.
Take note of highlights of the event or what you would do differently to help plan future events.
This section provides examples of events held around the state, including Sedgwick County's Tomato Day flyer.
CD
The CD has interactive versions of all forms. It also has the complete K-State Research and Extension Risk Management booklet. If you need help with the forms, contact Amy Hartman at ahartman@ksu.edu .
